'Retirement announced' Nadal will miss French Open and Paris Olympics next year

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) says it will do everything it can to support Rafael Nadal (240th-ranked Spain) as he recovers from injury to compete at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

"We recognize that Nadal is a champion and a gold medalist," ITF President David Haggerty said, according to Reuters on Monday. Playing in Paris could be a storybook ending to his career. But it's up to him to decide if he wants to play."

Once considered one of the "big three" in men's tennis, Nadal hasn't been the same player lately as he's been plagued by a series of injuries. After losing to American McEnroe McDonald in the second round of the men's singles at the Australian Open in January, he suffered a hip injury that eventually landed him on the operating table.

Realizing that his body was no longer up to the task, Nadal announced his retirement at the end of next season, and he has been focusing on his recovery in order to achieve a 'final hurrah'. He has posted videos of his training on social media.

However, there is no word yet on when he will return. Australian Open tournament director Craig Tilley said that Nadal will play the Australian Open next January, but Nadal"s representatives have said that a return date has not yet been finalized.

The stage is set for the final. The French Open, where Nadal has been at his strongest, and the Paris Olympics in Paris, France, would be ideal finales.

Nadal is no stranger to the Olympic stage. He won singles gold at Beijing 2008 and doubles gold at Rio 2016.

"We will do everything we can to get Nadal back playing," Haggerty said. It will be a great comeback for him, especially in Paris and the French Open, where he has had tremendous success. He wants to be at the top of his game and we want him to be at the top of his game," Haggerty said, pledging to help him stay healthy. 슬롯
