Rahu – the Karmic Planet

The energy of life goes from the Sun, the king of planets, to Rahu, which is one of the shadow planets.

Rahu is like a black hole compared to the Sun, which is the source of light for us on earth. Ketu, the other shadow planet, is a Moksha karaka. Rahu is about material things and desires, illusions and delusions. But both are part of a whole. Rahu is the head of the dragon, and Ketu, its tail.

Some planetary combinations are made for this world. Others related to your future birth or past birth. Such combinations can be like limiting barriers in your life. Sun and Rahu combination is one such. The Sun is your point of origin, whereas Rahu is where you terminate. This combination pertains to the afterlife result.

Sun and Mercury is a combination for this world. It can help you in your day-to-day behavior, as Mercury is a planet pertaining to relations, especially in the 1st, 5th, 6th, or 12th houses. This combination can work, giving you the energy for daily activities and an ability to understand the ways of this world. Sun-Rahu, however, indicates that your understanding will be of another world. All the intelligence and light may be used in the afterlife.

Sun-Mars combination indicates your ability to generate things. For instance, in the 2nd house, it will be about making money quickly or burning Shukra quickly, which is also the reason why it indicates the spouse’s short life or marital problems.

Sun and Jupiter combination indicates that your energy and light will bring higher understanding and knowledge. This will also make you a good problem solver, especially if Jupiter is combusted by Sun. You can be a high-ranking official, more so if the combination happens in 1/7/12/9/4 houses.

Sun-Rahu terminates your karma, as there will be no future. Rahu is like a black hole, and this indicates the final birth of the native as the native has taken birth to complete their soul’s remaining karma. It is not just Sun-Rahu, but Rahu in the 5th house signifies Putra dosha, which means there is no karma that natives can carry forward in the future.

When placed in the Lagna, it indicates that karma related to the physical body will end. When Rahu is in the Lagna, it means that this is the native’s last birth to experience physical pains and disfigurement. Both your entry and exit from the Earth can be painful, and you will be helpless. So, it is very important to be humble always.

When Rahu is with the Sun, the native will have less will to live, as they will experience everything possible in life. The birth chart of saint Maharishi Mahesh Yogi had the Sun - Rahu combination in the 12th house. He taught people how to meditate and the benefits of being in another world.

Rahu signifies a connection to another world. When combined with an active state, there will be times when such natives are lost in themselves or their own process due to their connection to another world. Hence, this combination will not make you the number one in your work. But your role will be more behind the scenes, like a shadow or strategist.

If there is a Venus - Rahu combination in a chart, it indicates that the karma related to Shukra (Venus) will end in this lifetime and that the native’s family life may cause dissatisfaction. The native will not be in a position to reveal to anyone that their loved ones are using them, but they will complete the karma.

Astrologers tend to glorify or downplay a combination, but it is more about understanding the energy of a combination. There have been people with Jupiter in the Lagna who turned out to be big frauds and those with Rahu in their Lagna who were very genuine people. So, it is safe to say that much depends on one’s temperament, conditioning, and behavior.
