The TDP Government of Andhra Pradesh has launched the Neeru-Chettu program, a Water Conservation Mission With the goal of eradicating poverty and reducing economic inequality through better water conservation and sustainable management and making the State drought-proof within five years. This Water Conservation Mission is one of the primary focus areas of the State Government of Andhra Pradesh which is launched in February 2015 and is one of the seven missions constituted for stimulating the growth engines.

 

Nara Chandrababu Naidu has launched the prestigious Neeru-Chettu Awareness programs at Kotekal Village, Emigannuru Mandal in the Kurnool district. In addition to this, the TDP Government aims to increase the overall green cover in the state and ensure 33% forest cover against the current 25%. Reviewing the state government's flagship program Neeru-Chettu with officials the former chief minister observed that it is time for people to save every drop of rainwater to make the state drought-free. He then said unscientific division of the state without proper allocation of resources had created unwanted problems in the state.

 

As part of it, meetings on the conservation of water and improvement of the groundwater table have been held in all villages across the State till the 11th of May in 2015.

 

A massive exercise was undertaken to repair, maintain and replenish lakes through lift irrigation. The agenda is cleaning up canals to improve their capacities and planting trees. The TDP Government took various to harvest the rainwater effectively.

 

Nara Chandrababu Naidu the former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh called up the officials to take steps for the effective implementation of the Neeru Chettu program and asked them to take advantage of the cyclone Hudhud rainwater. He then told that the  TDP government aims to make drought-free and the focus is on increasing the incomes of people in the next five years and instructed the officials to intensify the construction of water harvesting pits and farm ponds to make use of every drop of rainwater caused due to Hudhud cyclone. By the end of the year, the groundwater levels in the state have increased by 1.22 meters helping them with an additional reserve of 110 tmc water. And this is one of the greatest TDP Achievements.
