With Elden Ring DLC finally announced, we sat down with Let Me Solo Her to reflect on the year in The Lands Between

Elden Ring has seen countless role-players who could honestly pass for FromSoftware-made characters, but we've never witnessed another community figure – perhaps in a game – like Let Me Solo Her. The jar-headed, katana-wielding warrior continues to be helping Tarnished beat Elden Ring's hardest boss, Malenia, for pretty much a full year now. They've been immortalized in mods and fan art, inspired imitators like Let Us Duo Them, and also the markedly less helpful Let Her Solo Me, and they are still available fighting the great fight.

With Elden Ring annually old and lastly due for DLC – sooner or later, anyway, though we do not have a release date yet – I sat down with Let Me Solo Her to talk about his legendary adventures and what he hopes to determine in the long-awaited Shadow from the Erdtree. Believe it or not, he's still a devoted explorer of The Lands Between, but still finding something totally new.

"I am not at all as active as I was fighting Malenia," Let Me Solo Her tells me over Discord. "I am currently going through the Lands Between and discovering something totally new I haven't seen before. I'm almost at 1000 hours so I'm happy with that!"

I was curious if other Soulslikes such as the recently released Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty would attract Let Me Solo Her given his clear love of harsh challenges. He says he's seen gameplay of Wo Long, particularly, but his "main interests lie with FromSoft titles along with other games for example Overwatch."

In those 1,000 hours, Let Me Solo Her has got to know some of his peers. "I have spoken with 'Let Us Duo Her' who appeared on my small 1000th Malenia slain stream," he explains, "and 'Let Me Solo Them' on Reddit. I also spoke with 'Let Kratos Solo' who cosplays as Kratos from God of War. They discussed how much I inspired these phones to do the things they're doing and that makes me happy."

At this time, Let Me Solo is confident he's killed Malenia a minimum of 4,000 times, though he's understandably "stopped counting officially." He has about six characters in Elden Ring, three of these named Let Me Solo Her, using the original holding the majority of his playtime. Interestingly, the younger crowd has a character according to Sorceress Sellen, and another simply dubbed "Lightning Gal" employed for PvP Invasions. Seeing as how his OG character has "almost every item and armor within the game to date," this is the Tarnished that'll brave Shadow from the Erdtree once it's out.

"I'm so hyped since I could be here to savor it firsthand along with other Souls fans," he says from the DLC announcement. "I missed the DLC launch of Dark Souls 3 so I was very hyped to listen to it released soon. And that's precisely how FromSoft works when it comes to advertisements. I think it really works in their favor announcing it such as this since it gets more recognition with the internet." Indeed, the reveal is low-key that lots of players were caught off-guard, still reeling because the news percolated the morning after.

Like most Elden Ring players, Let Me Solo Her includes a bit of a wishlist for that DLC: "I definitely want to determine more Miquella content within the DLC, and perhaps The Lands Between within the past or even the prime prior to the Shattering. It's certain to have interesting lore and enemies." He speculates that "we are likely to enter the imagine Miquella who is within the cocoon at Moghwyn Palace and help him give Godwyn a rightful death."

Perhaps a lot more than any other player on Earth, Let Me Solo Her can also be looking forward to some tough bosses to understand. From Dark Souls to Dark Souls 3 to Bloodborne, FromSoftware consistently reserves their toughest boss fights for DLC, even though Malenia set a higher bar, I suspect Shadow from the Erdtree won't be any different. That's what Let Me Solo Her is relying on.

"Everyone knows a Soulsborne DLC has got the hardest boss, so yes, I'm hoping for any good challenge that's harder than Malenia," he admits. "I fought Malenia because I liked her design and moveset. If I such as the DLC's final boss, I will most likely take the mantle again."

Reflecting on the year of elden ring runes, he admits, "I do miss the first hype and also the new wave of Soulsborne players fighting bosses and traversing the planet together, but it is inevitable that players will leave as time passes with no new content. I still love Elden Ring despite its faults and bugs, and also the community continues to be one of the more passionate ones I've ever engaged in for a long time. When the DLC arrives I desire to make the majority of it since it will most likely be considered the 'Golden Age of Elden Ring.'"
