BIS Standard For Milk Powder

1. Milk description

  • The material of the milk powder must be white or white with a hinge of a greenish tinge or a light cream color. 

2. Flour and taste of milk powder

  • Must have a pleasant and clean flavor of the product or reconstituted milk.

3. Hygienic conditions

A milk powder must be manufactured and packed as prescribed by the IS 2491.

4. Milk powder

  • Milk powder must be produced by spraying the dried standardized milk which must be either cow or buffalo milk or could be a mixture.

BIS Standard For Condensed, Partly Skimmed, and Skimmed Milk

  • The product must be manufactured from fresh, whole, standardized, reconstituted, or recombined milk of a cow or buffalo or a combination of both.
  • It must be free from additives.
  • It might include refined lactose, citric acid, authorized flavors, solid salts, and more - these additions in the product must not increase 0.3 percent by finished product mass. 
  • he flavor of the product must be pleasant and clean, excluding rancid, fruity, moldy, cooked, sour, and more. Though, it might be judged on the basis of its sensory properties.
  • Sugar included in condensed milk, partly skimmed, and skimmed milk must comply with IS 1679-1960 and other good quality sugar which could be used.
  • It must be fortified with Vitamins A, D, and B groups. Moreover, the vitamins included must be of food grade and their fortification level must be mentioned on the labels, including if the use of condensed milk is not prescribed for infants.

BIS Standard For Sweetened Ultra High Temperature (UHT) Treated Condensed Milk

  • UHT condensed and UHT condensed skimmed milk must comply with the established requirements.
  • Must be manufactured from free, whole, standardized, reconstituted, recombined, or skimmed milk obtained either from cow or buffalo milk or a combination thereof.
  • Must not include any non-permitted additives. 
  • The mass of the finished product might include refined lactose, permitted flavors, calcium chloride, citric acid, etc must not increase by 0.3 percent.
  • Ingredients used must be clean, of high quality, and safe.
