Kars tereyağı, yüksek rakımlı yaylalarda otlayan ineklerin sütünden elde edilen sütten yapılır. Tereyağın rengi sarıya çalar ve yoğun bir kokusu vardır, bu da doğallığının göstergesidir. Genellikle yayık tereyağı yöntemine sadık kalınarak üretilir. Ekmeğe sürüldüğünde kendine has aroması hemen fark edilir. Yemeklerde kullanıldığında lezzetini derinleştirir, özellikle pilav ve çorbalarda öne çıkar.
