The formation of Kappa Delta Sorority began in 1897 at the State Female Normal School, located in Farmville, Virginia. This institution was pivotal, as it became the first home for a sorority that would significantly impact collegiate life for women. Kappa Delta was established by four visionary women: Mary sommers Hundley, Lenora Ashmore Blackiston, Sara Turner White, and Julia Gardner Tyler. These founders were not only instrumental in the establishment of their sorority but also embodied the values of sisterhood and community that Kappa Delta sought to promote among its members.
