Denver is the capital of the United States and the most populous city-county consolidated. It is the principal city of the Denver Aurora Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area and the first city of the Front Range Urban Corridor.
Denver is located in the Southwestern United States in the South Platte River Valley at the western edge of Colorado's High Plains, just east of Rocky Mountain's Front Range. It is located approximately 12 miles (19 kilometres) east of the intersection of Cherry Creekand the South Platte River. It is named after James W. Denver a governor of the Kansas Territory. It is known as the Mile High City due to its exact one-mile elevation (or 1609.344 meters).
