About Jaipur Holi Festival |

The evening before Rangwali Holi is when Holika Dahan is held. Burning wood and dung cakes on a symbolic pyre symbolises the triumph of good over evil (in Hindu Vedi scriptures, the God Vishnu helps burn the devil Holika to death). The following morning, people congregate in public areas to participate in Rangwali Holi. People chase each other around, throwing handfuls of coloured powder (known as gulal) at one another, and getting drenched in water during this raucous event.

Although the gulal was traditionally made with turmeric, paste, and flower extracts, synthetic versions are now frequently used.

However, Holi is primarily celebrated as a time for gathering and having fun. Although it is questionable to what extent this holds true in practise, it is said to be a time when friends, families, and communities can get together without regard for caste or ethnicity. However, some organisations take its religious components more seriously than others.
