Measures taken by TDP Government against Drought Conditions In Andhra Pradesh

Severe drought conditions prevailed in the state due to its unfavourable nature and there has never been such a drought in the past three decades. Shri. Nara Chandrababu Naidu and his TDP Government responded promptly and declared 1,041 mandals as drought-prone mandals. Due to the failure of both the South-West Monsoon and the North- East Monsoon, there has been unrelenting rainfall and soon after that major reservoirs in the state have also dried up. Eventually, there was a water drought in the Krishna and Godavari delta regions as well. Under the Nagarjuna Sagar Ayakattu, for the first time, there was a situation where water could not be released for both Kharif and Rabi crops.

 

Along with the shortage of irrigation water and fresh water, the shortage of animal fodder has also occurred as this is a natural calamity and 14 other states are facing similar drought conditions. Due to severe drought in the state, the agriculture sector has seen a loss of Rs 26.78 crore. Shri. Nara Chandrababu Naidu and the related TDP MLAs have taken immediate relief measures and implemented them widely in the state.

 

The state has recorded the lowest rainfall in the last seven years. During this period, the TDP Government has given high priority to the provision of freshwater by improving rural water supply, from 1995-96 to December 2003, 26,271 households were fully supplied with water at a cost of Rs.2629.58 crores. The TDP Government and the corresponding TDP Political Leaders have stepped up to help the farmers by providing the seeds at subsidised rates and also released Rs.113.75 crores for seeds and other agricultural production factors (inputs) as 1,87,044 quintals of seeds were supplied to the farmers. Considering it under the priority list of major TDP Policies, Defective borewells, Protected Water Schemes (PWS), and Community Protected Water Schemes (CPWS)Repairs were carried out for the above-mentioned equipment from time to time.

 

 

The TDP Government and the then eminent Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Shri. Nara Chandrababu Naidu has consulted with the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister on drought relief and a group of TDP MLAs and a group of TDP MPs also went to Delhi once and requested drought relief appealed to the Center to provide assistance and release 25 lakh tonnes of food grains. with this the Central

Drought Monitoring Teams visited the state twice, once in September 2002 and again in February 2003. A total of 15 lakh tonnes of rice was provided under the sampoorna rozgar yojana and drought financial assistance of Rs.59.45 crore has been released under ACCCF.

 

The TDP Government under the supreme leadership of Shri. Nara Chandrababu Naidu has implemented several schemes to face the fodder shortage and steps have been taken to harvest and supply the grass in the forests of the state as a result, 47,939 metric tonnes of grass were collected and distributed in the Prakasam district and also, 13,907 metric tonnes of hay was purchased and fodder was distributed to 10 districts in 59 special trains. Construction of water tanks for 20,310 cattle. More than 6,335 manual “Chop Cutters” have been supplied all these are some of the prime examples of TDP Contributions towards the people of Andhra Pradesh during the drought with a lot of protection measures, and short-term and long-term major TDP Policies and schemes.
