Goodbye to Apple's augmented reality glasses: the project fails and they will have to wait "indefinitely"

Apple's augmented reality glasses have been postponed indefinitely. The company is now said to be focusing on a "cheaper" mixed reality headset.

For years, Apple has not hidden its ambitions in the field of augmented reality . The company's CEO, Tim Cook, has indicated that the company is preparing for a great future in AR.

Bad news for the iPhone brand though . The company planned to launch an augmented reality headset this year , but has postponed its development indefinitely due to technical issues, Bloomberg reports. They ensure that even their employees are wary that the brand is capable of launching them even in the distant future.

And it is that, it was expected that Apple's augmented reality glasses would hit the market in 2023 ( after several delays ) and that they would combine elements of augmented reality and virtual reality. According to sources close to the project, these glasses were going to have a price that could be around 2,000 and even 3,000 dollars and were going to be intended for industrial and business environments.

But now the company is backing down, although it plans to continue launching its mixed reality glasses with a lower-cost version for 2024 or early 2025.

Goodbye Apple's AR glasses and hello to the brand's new "affordable" RM glasses

These AR glasses would have competed directly with Google Glass . These were intended to provide digital information overlaid on the real world rather than completely immersing the user in a virtual world, but Apple wanted to develop a lightweight pair with iPhone -like battery life . Unfortunately, this seems more than impossible, at the moment.

"Apple's initial dream of offering a lightweight augmented reality headset that people could wear all day seems years away, if ever ," writes Mark Gurman.

And it is that, so that it is understood, unlike virtual reality, which promises to immerse users who wear the glasses in new and exciting digital worlds, augmented reality superimposes images and data on the real world.

As we have already indicated, Apple has stopped focusing on augmented reality glasses to focus on creating more affordable mixed reality glasses. They are expected to launch this year and cost around $3,000.

There have already been some leaks that also claim that these glasses will have two 4K screens, an M2 chip (although there is also talk of the M1 Pro) and a variety of different sensors built in. Of course, if these are Apple's "affordable" glasses, we can't even imagine how much AR glasses will cost in the future (if they ever come to market).
