The movie Citizen Kane has a unique history, which needs to be studied and researched. The given drama film was directed and produced by Orson Welles, who was also starred in this film and was one of the authors of the original screenplay. He was an extremely talented person and his achievements made him famous in Hollywood, where he has once been invited. It is a Hollywood film, but it definitely has all the qualities of an independent one. Welles signed a contract with one of the Hollywood film production studios, which gave him an opportunity to create his own story and use his own actors, crew, and assistants. He was also authorized to influence the process of the final film cut, and to decide what had to be included in the final version of the movie. It gave him freedom to make the film as the viewers wanted it to be, and this fact makes it sort of independent, as nobody had such an impact and control over the process of filming as Welles.

Practically, all actors participating in the film were not conventional, and this was their firs film to act in. Nonetheless, it should be mentioned that almost all of them made a brilliant career, were nominated and awarded with such great awards as Oscar, the Golden Lion, Palme and others, and are well-known now in the world of cinema.

The process of advertising the film was extremely interesting because of the boundaries it unexpectedly met. While the posters were colorful, showing the beautiful bright images of the main heroes, the articles analyzing the film played against the promotion campaign. The media magnate William Randolph Hearst, who was considered as the prototype of the main character, was so abused with this comparison that he banned any advertising of the film.

The film itself consists of different elements that together form a real miracle of the filmmaking art of that time. The movie begins with the death of the main character, famous and influential Charles Forster Kane. The last word Rosebud comes out of his mouth and he dies absolutely alone in his big house. But this word evokes a series of other flashbacks that become more and more complicated as the time passes. The death of the main character brings up a lot of questions people have about this mystique person and we see several people telling stories about Kane. In each of them, Kane is represented in absolutely different way, so it is obvious that the real person died and now it is impossible to find out what kind of person he really was. The Rosebud a symbol of purity and young age shows that these things die with the last word of a man. Such details show the audience the real value of the image and impression, and that people are always remembered as a series of characteristics, and very few of them are true. The truth dies with the real person.

Unfortunately, the film was not a financial success after the release, although it was highly supported by critics, and was nominated for the Academy Awards in nine categories, including one Oscar for the best screenplay. But despite this fact, the movie has never been forgotten. It has been shown again in the cinemas as the time passed and it finally brought financial profit to Wells. It is still considered as one of the best films in the history of cinematography.

The remarkable films are always supported by the remarkable history. Citizen Kane was meant to be the real phenomenon of art from the very beginning. The natural talent and strong wish of Orson Welles resulted in one of the best films in the Hollywood history. Critics evaluated the film, and the Oscar award supported these high marks. Although not being successful in the commercial field, the film finally gained love of the audience during the last years, and it is still regarded as a real masterpiece of its times.
