There are lots of powerful demigods to battle in Elden Ring Runes, but Rennala isn’t one of these. When you meet Rennala, she’s a shadow of her former glory. Clearly gripped with deep depression, the very first half of your dream is hardly against Rennala whatsoever. She simply floats over the fray guarded inside a magical shield while her bizarre Juvenile Scholars hurl objects and cause chandeliers to crash around the player.

Only after breaking her shield and removing her coveted Rune of Rebirth will we get to see the real Rennala. Or is it? Reddit user JimMishimer recently learned that what you fight is really not the real Rennala, but it's representative of what Rennala was as in her prime.

"I just remarked that Rennala’s second phase is really a Ranni summon of her in her own prime and never the real Rennala," they wrote. Indeed, this becomes clear as inky smoke bubbles up in the Rune of Rebirth throughout the brief cutscene between phases one and 2, with Ranni the Witch saying you shall not disturb Rennala's "rich slumber."

Reddit user Sivick314 gives JimMishimer a great summary of what happens throughout the cutscene. "If you pay attention to what Ranni says within the transition it's obvious this is really a magical trap for anybody who attacks her mother that they set up. Ranni must have remarked that in her depression she is in no condition to protect herself. Despite her faults, Ranni loves her mother and desired to make sure not just was an ass beating available but that individuals would remember her at her full power."

The trap also transports you to definitely an illusory plane to battle the Rennala summon, who consequently can summon a Bloodhound Knight, a troll, a pack of wolves, or perhaps a full-grown dragon. The spells she wields will also be some of the most powerful within the game, making Rennala probably the most powerful spell caster out of all Lands Between. At least, when she had her full wits about her.

After your dream, the illusion is killed, but Renalla herself remains. You even offer her back her Rune of Rebirth inside a unique display of kindness, with Rennala then becoming the game's respec system.

Rennala is completely incredible, and hopefully, we'll see much more of her in Elden Ring's Shadow from the Erdtree DLC.
